When we have new cats and kittens for adoption, they’ll be listed on the website with their approximate age, temperament, and any special considerations.
You can visit kitties in store Mon 10-2, Tues – Fri 11 – 3 and Sat 9 – 2. If a kitten is in foster care, you can make arrangements to visit and see if it’s meant to be.
We want to ensure all our cats go to the right home so we ask questions about previous pets you’ve had, who your veterinarian is, who will be interacting with the cat, and other considerations.
Working in animal rescue, we often see people cheerfully take home a new kitten only to lock it outside as soon as it needs to be neutered, or discard senior cats who have been with the family for over a decade in favour of a new kitten. (And those are the better of the worst case scenarios.) Please know we’re not trying to be invasive, we’re just ensuring each home will be a good fit.
The Interview/Home Visit
One of our volunteers will want to speak to you upon receiving and reviewing your application to ensure you’re clear on the responsibility and have taken various considerations into mind. If you’ve never adopted from us before, we may request a visit to your home as well.
During a home visit, we don’t care if your home is spotless or how many dishes you have in the sink: we just want to see where the cat will be staying and if it’s a safe environment.
We also check in with character references, and will require your authorization to speak to your veterinarian to ensure you’re a suitable home.
Pay the Adoption Fee
Adoption fees are changing. As of June 1, 2018, our adult cats will be $100 and kittens $150 (with a special Together Forever price of $250). Some bonded cats will have special prices as well if they’re required to go together–please inquire if you’re interested in a pair of bonded adults. Payment is due after applicants are approved and before the new cat is taken home.
Payments can be made via cash or cheque at our store or via PayPal. The fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccinations, de-worming and de-fleaing. The average cost of all that is over $350; adoption fees help cover some of our costs.
Take Your New Family Member Home!
Arrangements will be made for you to pick up your new cat or kitten at either our store or the foster home.
Adult cats will go home already spayed and neutered. Kittens are often too young for the procedure; if that’s the case, the surgery will be done when they’re old enough. If you adopted a kitten and it’s now old enough to be spayed or neutered, please use the following form and a volunteer will be in touch with you with an appointment time ASAP. Don’t forget to send us your happy ending to be featured on the site!
Please note there is a mandatory forty-eight-hour minimum waiting period before bringing your new kitten or cat home. We cannot do same day adoptions. This gives both you the opportunity to consider if the decision was best, and us an opportunity to review your application.
We are also all volunteers who do this in our limited free time; sometimes it can take a week to review applications and get back to you, and appreciate your patience. Adoption pickups are typically done on Fridays and Saturdays when there’s a board member available to go over the paperwork we send home with the cat/kitten.
